ARMOR EDP

ARMOR is a project conceived in a typography class. The objective was to study and present a type specimen of a single typeface, showcased on a branded object.

A fragrance concept released by my imagined perfumerie called ‘Your Everyday Armor,’ the campaign aims to exemplify both my own design style, as well as the boldness and versatility of my chosen typeface - Franklin Gothic. Inspired by the simple but effective early 90’s ad campaigns of brands like Maison Margiela, Helmut Lang, CDG, and Ann Demeulemeester, I envisioned what a scent campaign would look like by one of these brands in the 14th century. By combining minimalist design and posters digitally printed on synthetic vellum and lithography pressed with gilded silver text, I feel the print campaign successfully communicated the vision.

The concept of the scent came from an exploration of the armor a woman creates through adornment, makeup, fashion, and scent - a self-constructed shield of elements chosen to either deter or attract those we come in contact with. ARMOR is meant to arouse empowerment and protection; it’s not your typical sexy club fragrance, and a sense of bravery or familiarity is needed to approach those who wear it. When choosing the aroma chemicals, I envisioned what a valiant female knight in shining armor would smell like after a victorious battle in the year 1302. The fragrance unfolds over time - from sharp metallic top notes to warm soil and soft dewy roses once it sets in. As the layers of fragrance unravel, so does the ‘armor’ slowly dissipate, until its next application.
